Default Lovely field

Host

This was the most beautiful thing I'd seen this year. Trust me. I turned into a field, an it was swimming with daffodils. Really lovely. Unlike the photo. It was a bright sunny day. I didn't want any close-ups, just to capture something of the whole. What would you have done?

rachel,

Might have jumped for joy (it just started to snow here again), then adjusted my exposure compensation down some. You'd get a richer mix of light/dark, which can still be done, post. And I would have lined up horizon with the top of viewfinder, to level. And maybe have gotten more of tree on right, or none of it. And then a down-and-dirty closeup showing some of the rest of field. Other than that, I'd do what you've down: record a moment.

I will try that, thanks. I often forget the horizon - I'm still a bit of a fearful photographer...Just gotta keep practicing and making loads of mistakes. I like the snow though. I think we only had 1 good day of snow this year.

rachel,

If the fear is of making mistakes, do some intentionally: spend a day taking the worst possible shots of boring subjects. Then relax a bit, and recognize that your practice will bring knowledge, knowledge brings confidence, and better photos.

This year's snow? It's the difference between a canary singing in a cage, and the scene from Alfred Hitchcock's movie, of the phone booth being attacked. Too much of a good thing.

I will do that. It's the only way I guess.

I get your drift (excuse the pun) - I read that book.
