Default Dead tree in desert

Here is a picture that I took in Moab, Utah last week while off-roading. I didnt do much to set up, but I like the way it turned out. This is with nothing but cropping done to it.

here is the original sized picture.

Great texture, but the dominance of the tree means the location is lost, which is a shame.

I do have some pretty good location shots but they need a little work first.

moab_b2,

One photograph can/will not ever tell a story everyone wants, so this is a good closeup (could use a little stronger contrast), with a pleasant hint on the side of sky, distant hillside, and vegetation. With your other photos, this will be a standout. Experiment is good.

Jiminy is right. By itself I don't think this photo really captures the mood of the location, but it would be great used as a part of a "photo essay" or group of photos about the place you took them.

So with the above mentioned comments does this make more sense? I forgot I had other pics from the same location.

I did not know if I should start another thread for this, but since I got the advise to show more in the shot, I had to see if this is what you guys were talking about. Thanks for all your time.

moab_b2,

This is good for the texture of that stump and the countryside it's in. So now the first one pales by comparison. Nicely framed, good color, if horizon was level and whole stump was there, very good photo.
