The sun just set where I live and the colours were amazing , still playing with my speed 1/3200 (still cant get my head around this) and ISO 200 aperture 5.6 had to force the focus, as auto focus was having none of it.
The colours were so strong I reduced it, and I sharpened the image. The sky reminds me of an oil painting.

knickers71uk,
I should ask you . . . I like the second because it fits what I like in painting and photography. This doesn't mean it's right, just more pleasant to look at. How do you see it?

I like the second because the light seems to play with the sky more. It brought the sky forward more and other details do not seem to dsitract you as much.

knickers71uk,
Sometimes it's knowing what to leave in, too. I started to suggest a third, tighter crop to make sun even more dramatic, but that blue at top is also priceless. Even in a portrait crop, this would hold up as powerful. Good one!

thought i would do the crop you suggested and as you have said about having the sun off centre, thats how I cropped it, also i tried not to lose the sky.

To be honest, I think that your first shot is a bit dark and centered.
But when I saw the crop with the sun on the bottom right of the picture, I think it really added another dimension to the shot and made it more appealling. Just goes to show you how much changing a little can do! |

knickers71uk, nice shot! I like the third cropping the best - the details are more defined, and the sun balances the rest (darker) part of the photo in the terms of the size. Only I think It's a bit too close to the edge of the frame. You could try to put the sun a little further from the right frame, in 1/3 or golden ratio line. Then it would be more balanced, in terms of position. The light sources are tricky, they are very strong comparing to other elements in the picture. These things need a little practice, trying different options as you did here and see how it feels, keeping some of the rules in mind... Of course, you can always go to the extremes (I sometimes like to do that), but it needs to be justified and supported with some other elements in order to be effective.
It's a good shot, keep it up!
