Default Cameron

My nephew, Cameron. He's a little over five months old. Took this yesterday. It's one of the first shots with my new Tamron 28-75mm that I've been really happy with, as well as being one of my first attempts at using the GIMP for some post-processing. Basically all I did was convert to grayscale, play with brightness and contrast a bit, and tweak curves (since I blew the highlights just a tad on the exposure). Anyway, here he is.

Cameron

And yes, that's the same baby from the "Newborn and Grandmother" thread I posted a couple of months ago. Criticism, comments, and suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks!

TNBDM,

Don't you love post?! Some moments never appear twice, and I see this one's a keeper. Very shallow DOF, guess it's OK here although two sharp eyes would be great. I fuss a bit, so the lighter spots behind head on left would have to nearly disappear (leaving enough to delineate BG). If there was much blowout, you rescued it. Just sweet as can be.

I agree about the DOF. Wish I'd been able to get a little bit more, but the shot was handheld--tripod wasn't handy--and it was either shoot at 2.8 and have narrow DOF or increase the ISO even more for a marginal DOF increase. It would have been nice to get both eyes in focus, but I'm still very happy with the result.

I'll have to work a bit on getting rid of those light spots. They didn't really bother me at first, but now that you've mentioned it, they're starting to.

Thanks for the comments! Anyone else?

I am still getting the hang of all this myself, but isnt he the cutest!! would have liked to see both eyes sharp, but then as I am a beginner in this I know how hard that is, especially when babies do not keep still lol only thing i can suggest (totally tongue in cheek) is duck tape, to hold em down, teehee
