sana,
There's a lot going on there, and it's divided in such a way that it tells your story. I tried to look at it again without thinking of a love story; couldn't do it. The direction and expression of bust makes it what it is, the broken shutters give a supporting role. I just responded to your 'right angle' thought, wonder about shot from up-and-left from where this was taken, having more of face looking almost into camera. Not better, just different. Otherwise it just needs printing. The other stuff, like straightening lens distortion or trying to bring a little more definition into shadows, would be cosmetic. Up to you. I'd take it at face value.

Wow, what a great place for architectural photos! Jim's right about a lot going on here. The 2 windows (or window and niche) kind of compete with each other. Just the window alone would make an interesting shot with the broken shutters and chipped wall. Likewise, the bust in the niche would be nice all by itself, especially with the beautiful colors behind it.

Thanks Jiminy and Salalonde, your imputs mean a lot to me.
There really are nice architectural spots here. I discovered this one in an obscure corner of one of the oldest Belgrade streets. And there are many other interesting details which are high in the air and not particularly interesting for shooting from the ground My problem these days is that I'm having my pair of wings repaired so I could not really reach the upper left corner as Jiminy suggested .This here is between ground floor and the first floor. I was aming at the straightforward shot and only thanks to the moving display of my S3 IS I was able to lift it high above my head and get a decent perspective. I agree with you Saralonde, the window and the statue do compete for attention individually, and because of their relationship their individual details/stories suffer. I'll try what you suggested and see how they stand alone (especially the window, I think..) On the other hand, I was trying to emphasize the relationship and I've noticed that the eye keeps moving from one to another, and I only hope that this effect is good enough to support the story. Jiminy, thanks for the encouragement! About the shadow definition you mentioned, I haven't even payed attention to that.. I get what you mean, it would be more interesting with stronger shadows. And if you could show me, I'd really like to know how to do that. Please feel free to edit the photo if you want to. About the barrel distortion, I took this shot with wide angle conversion lense. I took some photos with regular lense the previous day, and it felt that it would be better for the story if the window and the statue lean towards each other. The other shot felt like the relationship was more formal/distant. |

I think your description adds to it so much more. I agree that all it needs is printing. Good job.
