Default Red Skin....Why??

I'm assuming (or hoping) that this red skin glare is just from the sun, but I wanted to ask. Seems like all of the pictures I've taken of my kids outside lately, have this red line/glare on the skin (usually around the forehead area, like this one). I dropped my camera last weekend (from about a foot high) and now I'm freaking out thinking there's something wrong with it

On the other hand, I just went from a crt monitor to an LCD monitor around the same time so maybe what I am seeing is just on my screen...?

Oh and sorry about the huge picture. I hope it's ok. It's easier to see that red streak in the large version.

while i don't know what the original skin tone of your kids was, i certainly can't see any red glare or red line in his forehead. But this cuold just be my old monitor. Have you tried looking at some old photos of your kids from before you got the LCD monitor to see if they also appear more red(ie photos that you thought looked fine before). If so, i could well be the monitor. Also, have you changed any of the white balance settings on your camera recently. I always forget to change mine back to normal after i play with it, and then wonder why my shots turn out funny. Just some thoughts.

oops forgot to add, this is a nice shot, i like the composition, and the blurred background!

Yea, it looks fine to me also. Did you raise the Saturation level in postprocessing? If not, you could maybe lower it a tad bit.

I'm not seeing any red glare either. Is it possible to check out this image on another monitor?

no glare here either.. need to color calibrate the monitor, maybe see if it's set on too "warm" of tones? is it just this picture? Maybe check some other images with skin tones in the forum and see how they look on your screen?

Thanks everyone....I think maybe I'm just not used to this LCD screen. Everything looks alot brighter than my old crt did. And thanks for the nice comments!

I have checked this pic on my "old faithfull" and my latest LCD monitor and there is no red glare over skin tones. Can only suggest what others have said before me, especially recalibrate and check out on other monitors.

SugarMama,

To round out the list, the forehead has a very thin layer of skin with the blood vesels just below the surface. In bright sun, these factors can add to the redness. Excellent shot, and on a 19-inch LCD, the scalp is pinkish.

Ok, thanks again for the help! I went upstairs and looked at it on my sons crt and it looked alot different. I will definitely calibrate and see what happens.
