My sister and mother were taking self portraits on the other side of the room with a new camera, and i just couldn;t resist the oportunity to capture the moment. My intention was to focus on the camera screen and have the rest OOF. this didn't seem to work and now all i've got is an overexposed screen, and underexposed people. Should i try and simply expose the screen correctly, and leave the rest very underexposed?

I've got to say that on my screen, I like the exposure the way it is. The people don't seem horribly underexposed, nor does the screen seem horribly overexposed.
I think that if your family members were brighter (for lack of a better description) then it would take focus away from the camera which you got pretty much perfectly from what I can see. I like the shot

Unfortuneately, before i took this picture, i set my camera to black and white, as the point and shoot was also set to this. So, alas, there is not colour version.
I'll give the picture another go next week, when we're all in the same place again. this time i'll move in a lot closer to camera so that the depth of field will be narrowed (by forcing the camera to focus on something closer) and i'll take it in colour....thats the plan anyway...
