Default Dithered Sun

Sarasota Sunrise 2

Is there a way to soften or get rid of the dithered look of the sun? Could it be the by product of my editing software (Bibble Pro)? This shot came out pretty nice considering I hand held the camera and was standing on a bridge. Since I was on the wrong side of the bridge, I had to take the shot between passing vehicles.

Any other comments welcomed.

I think your camera is struggling with the intense light of the sun. Are you on the very highest quality setting (no JPEG compression)? That might help as might waiting until the sun drops a bit lower.

Nb. although the sun is quite low here, you have to be careful about shooting directly at it, especially as the camera focuses its light towards your eyes!

I did some retouching to the photo which seemed to smooth out the sun's colors. The building on the left was also cropped out. It seems to give the buildings more focus.

Flickr seems to be sensitive about replacing photos. I was going to use the HTML code for the medium format of the photo but the code still shows the old version of the photo while the large format shows the new photo. So I provided the link to the large format of the new version of the photo.

lazyrust,

Much better. If you over-contrasted or sharpened, yes it could be the software but most any edit program will do that if pushed too far.

Check your camera's website: some sensors can be damaged by shooting directly into sun. Using your LCD screen will prevent your blinding; sensor is vulnerable.

Not sure what's happening at Flickr for you; did you edit here first, by deleting your first photo post? Then go to Flickr, delete first photo and download new version. This has worked for me; whether it's what's wrong or not, can't say.
