Default Attempt at Urban Photography

Hi,
I thought I'd have a go at some urban photography at the water tower near my house and in town, I'm not quite sure what to make of these pictures and would really like some comments and criticism to help me improve.

ZirconiumZephyr, Welcome

May I call you ZZ? There's something familiar about your photos, like I'd seen them before. And that's it: this is how I hope my shot will look, just before I do something to mess it up. You have composition, angle, lighting, choice of subject all in your favor. Even this Wednesday's assignment (#3).

Thank you for the quality. Not overdone, no gimmicks, good photography.

I think the third shot is particularly well done. Nice zeroing in on the subject, good detail and color.
I think good urban photography generally keeps the foreground and background uncluttered so the subject is primary. Because urban areas can often be random and disordered, you need to make sure there are no distractions. B&W, as in your first image, was a good choice. It helped zero in on the 3 small figures in the back without having the huge beams distract from them. Urban photography often works well when you take things at odd angles and perspectives. Your last shot shows something like that. Graffiti shots, like #2, are great for urban photography. Try some up close versions of that, too.
All in all, pretty good first try.
