Default Sniff, Sniff

chewie

She is a very curious pup. I really call this sniff, sniff, snot as she will sniff until her little lungs are full then let all that air out quickly. (usually not just air) In this shot I was a second away from having to clean my lens.

What are your thought?

What a little cutie she is! I like the catchlight you got in her eyes and you did pretty well with the lighting. Dogs and cats with white or black coats can be notoriously hard to light. I might have opened up my lens a bit to blur the background. This also might be good cropped down to just her face for a different take.

I agree bluring the background may have look better. I'm currently using a Sony P&S and the shot was mostly an accident. I was crouched down when Chewie (that's her name) started walking towards me. I didn't even snap the shot until she was almost on top of me. I'm looking into getting a DSLR but costsare in my way.

I have mostly been a film person. Even building a darkroom in my basement. So I have a huge investment in to older format and my financial advisor, my wife, thinks we should wait on spending money on another format.

I've started experimenting with the manual functions of the P&S and getting some cool results.

Thanks for the feedback.

Nice to find another former film user. I started with film and did developing, too. Now all the developing stuff sits unused in the basement. After dipping my toe in the water, I find I really love digital.

Great idea for a shot, though the image looks flat.

I actually like the background sharp, it kind of displays her world behind where she obviously rules (It actually reminds me of Mona Lisa portrait ). The sharp sand texture adds to the drama. Only the round object on the left is disturbing, it's competing with her eyes (maybe it can be cloned?). There's also the black spot above her left eye, I'd clone that too.
Cute puppy, what an attitude! Bravo for taking the risk with the lense!
