Default Classic Blue

I've had this pic for some time, and after reading about the overlay technique I have tried it on this pic... I really liked the results.

I'm hoping to work on my auto portfolio quite a bit this year so I was hoping to get some tips if you have any to offer.

Default The Blues

Certainly everything is right about this picture. The softness overlay really helps and I always love looking at parts of cars as opposed to the whole.

I'm not sure there is anything you could do to improve this. Composition, color, lighting, even water droplets, all great.

rachel_r,

Lingering over your Flickr stream (each one having some feature to enjoy), I'm wondering if you have a background in graphics and/or design. Color and composition choices say you would do well in those fields.

Hope you continue to explore the layering. Not commonly known is the use of the method for sharpening and contrasting without losing details in whites. You can enlarge a blurred layer to create a soft halo around a person or flower (Michael Brown technique). Anything you want to have fine control over, works on a layer. I've had up to 5 layers, tweaking, nudging a few points back and forth.

When you photographed Classic Blue, were you wearing light blue? Chrome detail is so good. Enjoyed "paint booth" shot sharpness as well. Glad you posted today, always good to see quality.

Default thanks guys

Thanks to everyone for all your compliments... I always have so much trouble deciding if certain shots will only look cool to me... I appreciate the encouragement.

jiminy - I don't have a background in graphics/design - it is so nice of you to think so highly of my work. I wish I could be more creative sometimes and often feel in a rut taking pics. That's when I usually blow the dust off of the digital albums and see if there are any pics I can save in photoshop. This pic was one of those. But, I would really love to know more about graphic design. I learn little by little.

rachel_r,

Ah, a kindred human being. And photography is as much about design, color and composition as it is about f/stops, ISO and focus. So maybe this is your niche. Hope you enjoy it, too.

(Most satisfying photograph this year for me? One from last Spring I "blew the dust off of" on which to use some new stuff learned here.)

This is a great shot. The details in it are wonderful. I could see this picture in a classic car magazine, calander or book. Good work.

fantastic shot, just started doing hotrod and custom car shows and sometimes the best you can get is only parts of the car, this shot is brilliant.
