Background and windows are competing w/S&P. More thought, imagination on next shot: composition (pepper tipped over, salt in foreground, something), lighting (bounce flash off a chrome napkin holder), a third element (hand, French fry, hand with French fry). Bring importance to the everyday with your choices.

not bad, but I agree with jiminy. The tones are also maybe a little too warm... have you tried it in b&w?

How would you describe your "brief" for the photo (even if it was one set for yourself)?

Assuming you particularly wanted the salt and pepper, I think the comments above are worth bearing in mind. Some can be fixed on the computer - for example, I have sometimes found that very bright colours look best slightly desaturated. Others, like background elements, are probably better done by going back and retaking the shot.

Looking at the larger version, I notice that the focal point (the bit most in focus) seems to be the backs of the salt and pepper pots! One thing that would make a shot like this look much better would be to ensure that the front faces are sharp. Also, while thinking about your main subjects, don't forget to give them a quick polish and consider the contents - neither the salt nor the pepper lies flat, which may not be a problem but if you are after a neat effect then it would be worth giving both a tap to level them out.
