Thumbs up I learn HDR today

Hi guys and girls

After a few hours of studying HDR technique and pictures. I decided to learn and try it for once. If you think this picture that I am showing you does look like HDR please tell me. If it doesnt what should I improve. Thanks

Mutrah Area-HDR

Taken today near Sultan Palace in Muscat, Oman.

it seems to me that when people discover HDR, their first attempts are a little too much. but this... this is great! If you ask me, this is a perfect use of HDR. it's not obvious that you did anything to it, which means you did really well!

I love the colors and the shadows... and the shot was framed really well! great job!

Wouldn't have guessed HDR right away if you hadn't told us. Nice job.

no... HDR is a process by which you get more out of a photo... a bigger range of light than the camera sensor can capture. a good HDR has a wide range of tones and isn't over- or under-exposed. It will also have good saturation. HDR isn't supposed to look 3D or cartoon. You can make it that way by over-doing it, but ideally, you shouldn't be able to tell.

but, like any art, there are times when overdoing it has some neat results. I usually don't like the over-HDR'ed shots, but that's me.

That would be up to how the photographer wants to portray his/her photograph. To me, Good HDR is not overdone. The great example of HDR is...actually the one you posted. It's not overdone. Some HDR images look too fake. Those 'fake' HDR images lose the essence of photography by that point.

Hi ReneeK (and wecome )

For all your HDR needs, check out this thread on HDR editing. Oh, and it stands for High Dynamic Range.
