Default Infrared with Canon S3 IS

Hi,

After learning for sometimes, finaly I am brave enough to post my picture for your critique. The picture was taken using infrared filter in manual mode with Av=2.7 and Tv=15 seconds. I put camera on the ground, head up and shoot with automatic timer to avoid shake.

I still have a problem in setting focus using infrared filter. I set focus before putting in the filter. Then I took the picture using focus braketing, and this one is the best focus (2 stops nearer) among 3 shoots. But I am still not satisfied with the result. Any suggestion?

The attached picture is the original (no touch at all), I just resize it. The full size is available in myFlickr.

Any critique is welcome...

Thanks in forward.

Neat picture. I've never used an IR filter, so I don't really have any suggestions for how to get better focus. Did you make sure to focus on what you wanted, then switch your lens over to Manual focus so that the focus didn't change once you put the filter on?

And as a side note: Directions on how to post a photo from your flickr account on the forums are in the FAQs that way you don't have to upload and post a link And finally, Welcome

Nicole,
I did follow the instruction on how to post picture from Flickr, but I got no luck on step 5. I did not get text saying "Copy and paste....", so I take the second instruction by using attachment. Any help ?

Actually I set the focus on tree at right-font (to get the best IR effect on tree rather than on the train itself). I set the focus by pressing the shutter half-way then set to Manual Focus. And after that I put the filter.

A friend of mine told me that IR filter will change the focus, but he is not sure how far it deviates from original focus. That's why I experiment with bracketing. There is facility to set 1,2 or 3 stop for focus braketing. but I only try once using 2 stop.

Regards,

The "copy and paste" text is below the picture. Perhaps we should do a FAQ with screenshots?

Wow, this looks great. I also use S3 IS. It has some filters but I never use them. I think I'll give it a try now.
