Default What do yall think?

This is a shot of some slave cabins on a Louisiana plantation. I messed around a little with it but wasn't sure how I felt about it. Thanks for any advice!

jlevetjr,

If my eyes were better I could know for certain if that is one long porch. That would answer why this was shot head-on; that perspective interest is lessened a bit by the distance that makes the subject small. Did you take a landscape-oriented photo, too? Closer? Not as centered?

B/W looks good, Spanish moss is interesting.

I agree with j-clickit...the bw treatment and contrast are excellent. Perhaps framing more on the porch would make the effect better. Less of the building, more of the porch in frame.

Nice eye.

jiminyClickit: Sure did....I was thinking about posting the below picture later as well. I was a little unsure about the composition of the previous shot (as you mentioned, the cabin is quite small and centered in the picture), but for some reason, I kept going back to it.

This was my first picture to put on this site, and its great to finally get some constructive feedback on my photos. Thanks to you both!

Here is another I took of the same cabins - like j-clickit questioned about....

(Oh, and any tips on uploading a larger picture....right now, I'm simply saving as a jpeg and downsizing to a size small enough to upload.)

jlevetjr,

That's everything I could have hoped for . . . way to compose a shot! Much more interesting and a better depiction of site.

Posting issues are spelled out well at the beginning of the Assignment thread, in the yellow 'sticky.'
