Default My first

Hi, I just bought my very first digital SLR (Rebel XT) last month. I am very new to photography and eager to learn. Here is one of my first few attempts at it. For this shot I used the kit lens and tried the b/w for a more classic look. It looks nice but I need your opinion on it.

I like it. You did really well at ensuring that the eyes are in sharp focus. That's often the key to shots like this. The only thing I might do is change the composition a bit so that you can either see all of the head, or so that the shot is almost totally filled with the face.

Welcome to the site, and I hope you enjoy your new camera

xtnewbie,

If you were to photograph again, the direction the child is looking may be less distracting at increased distance (as Nicole suggested to see all of head), or just get attention closer to center. This is a fine first post, and the critique may just be that baby's stare seems too harsh.
