Default A Flamingo

Hey guys, I'm kind of new here (but I've been reading some posts for a while), so I thought I'd start posting by showing a couple photos I took today at SeaWorld:

I took this by zooming out all the way with an 18-55mm lens, then getting my camera very close to the bird (within a few inches). I like how the perspective makes the bird's head appear huge.

My main concerns with the first one is that the depth of field is too shallow (the eyes are blurred while the beak is clear) and there's a little too much room at the bottom (which I couldn't fix with cropping while keeping the same aspect ratio).

Let me know what you guys think!

Edit: Whoops, forgot that you're only supposed to post one picture per thread. Here's the other one, doesn't have to be critiqued though:

I like the creative way you chose to shoot this fellow. I do wish the eye were abit sharper but otherwise really like this!

Yeah, I wish I had thought of using a little higher aperture setting. Oh well.

I do have a few shots where the eyes is in focus, but then the beak is out of focus, and I really liked the detail in the teeth(?).

For example:
