Default Piano Portait

Piano

Suggestions?
I'm aware it's a little dark and cropped a bit too much.

happilyinvisible, Welcome

Even though you've helped make it very hard to keep up with Critque by posting so many photos at one time, your quality means this was worth the extra time it's taken to get to it. It has character elements (hair, key pendant, fingerless gloves) that set it apart, as does your choice of framing nearly equal parts, piano and subject. Good lighting. This is why I look at every post: gems are hidden there. Thanks for this one.

Actually, I like the way it is cropped. I don't think there's enough contrast between the piano and the wall, and the player and the wall in the background. Everything seems to run together. I'm curious if the color version of this photo would help show some more contrast.

I think there are great elements to this photo - the composition is good - the subject invokes interest. Personally I like the B/W I think it really adds character. where I think there could be some improvement - especially with the black and white aspect I think more contrast between the tones and depth of field could really add some impact to this shot. Another thing that I think would really step up the shot is to straighten out the angles - the angles between the face of the piano and the keyboard on the left seem to be tilting in just a little - straighting these out may cause the model to arch over the keyboard just a bit more making it seem there is more emotion in the playing. Focus more on the piano than the model and the model's strength will come through.
