I actually like the composition of this shot - i think cropping just a bit really makes the sculpture impressive - to me two things strike me - first the background is a bit busy - so maybe some post production to reduce the background's distraction from the subject. Secondly the color seems just a wee bit off - and this got me thinking that a pure B/W would be a really neat treatment since this sculpture can be cold and imposing.

It's different when it's your work. Suppose I cut out a portion of one of these photos and show it to the world as an example of your work? It isn't a fair representation. In a group, as wulf suggests, different altogether, as long as at least one is complete.

jiminyClickit: My intention was not to slight the sculptor, but to take an interesting photo. I'm sorry if this offends, but my goal was not to reproduce the sculptor's work, rather to take an interesting or original view of the subject.

codearachnid: I think the white balance may have been off for the shot. It was a mix of sunny and shady, and I chose shady for the white balance, which seems to have overcompensated a bit. Oh well, still learning this thing. One of these days I'll get all the settings right before taking the picture

There's a condition that is neither offensive nor thoughtless: it's called "unthinking." I have no doubt that's where this came from, it not having occurred to you that a work by any artist (including your own photos) is meant to be seen as the artist created it, whole, unadulterated. If nothing else, I hope to get members to think more about what goes through their lens, and carefully consider the subject.

I'm sorry you're offended. However, this is a hobby for me, and I'm not going to stop trying to take photos I think are interesting, even if it does offend some people. If that means you ban me from this site, then so be it.

But before you ban me, I'd like you to consider your statements and then read your own signature. I'd also ask how you know what my intentions are on altered/partial versions of my own photos, since I haven't told you such.

I'm not trying to be adverserial, but I'm just suprised by the lack of empathy in your post, which came across as quite condescending.
