I shot this scene while in the car traveling to Denver. The sky was very blown out int he orginal pic but think I may have overdone it. What do you think?


I didnt really have time to adjust for anything. but was shot with my fujiE900, iso 80, 16.8mm, f.4

I think the clouds are the part thats bothering me Wind.
Maybe be easier if you let us know what post work you did?

The picture has a post-apocalyptic feel to it. The colors seem to be desaturated or something.

I did some tone mapping and boosted the colors a bit. That is steam fromt he facory and that was the part that bothered me the most too.

I actually liked the tone of the first one the best. It made it more than just a picture.

Out of the 2 of them I like the first one the best even though it has a cartoony / sci-fi movie look to it.

I'm sure you looked at in B&W - but someone suggested a post-apocalyptic feel and that would be enhanced by a monochrome view. Not that the picture you took is bleak - but the subject has a certain forsaken look, punctuated by the moment you captured which looks almost devastating. Like a factory in the desert destroying itself.

I actually did try it in black and white but could not get the sky to look the way i wanted it to. Just wasnt "smooth" enough for me and no matter what i tried it just didnt look right.

My vote is for the second and I do like the symetry of the shot. This is a good specimen, it seems, of a place where a big proportion of sky is necessary to accomodate a primary subject.
