Default Sandstone in Oudtshoorn

This is my first post, so here goes. I hope I did this right. This was taken in August of last year in the town of Oudtshoorn in South Africa. The building is part of an old school dating from the 1800's during which Outshoorn had a booming ostrich trade. The picture was taken with my sony cybershot DSC-St 80 on Auto. It was early morning and the light was relatively soft.

w87, Welcome

The part of the building that shows is sharp enough, has good contrast and color, and as a study in composition, is interesting. The pigeon is throwing things off a bit, mainly because of the forward-folded wings (looks a little like a WWII bomb). For an indication of the size and style of the old school, the angle and crop may need a rethink. What's there is interesting, not sure it's enough for a strong subject. Good work.

Yes I now that you mention it, it does remind me of some sort of WWII bomb.
Perhaps another angle could have been more striking, maybe focusing only on the detail of the building?

In any case it was taken during a student tour and sometimes it gets a bit tricky to keep 30 trigger happy fellow students out of your shot.

Thanks for the crit

Hi W87,
I agree with jiminy's assessment. You have a good subject and a good eye for capturing the architectural elements. In this one case though, the angle doesn't allow for enough of a view of the details. I can appreciate your comment about trying to get a shot without including fellow students and toursts.
