Default Concert Band Trombonist

ISO 800, f/1.8, 1/320sec, 50mm, AP Mode

I was allowed to photograph a few concert bands when they performed at our school. This is my first time shooting in a dark environment, and I personally, my niftyfifty helped a lot more than the 17-40mm that I own.

I need crits / suggestions to improve my concert shooting skills as I am going to have another concert photoshoot next Sunday.

My tools are:
Canon EOS 400D
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4l
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5 - f/5.6 IS USM (borrowed)
Free Canon Tripod

Flash will not be allowed.

Thanks!!

It still looks a bit soft. You might be better off using a slightly smaller aperture and slower shutter speed.

Also, while the overall exposure (balance of light and dark) looks good, the composition of this shot isn't very exciting. Once you figure out good settings for exposure concentrate on finding angles that make the most of the subject and pay attention to how it sits against details in the background.
