Default Still life

The ingredients are so colourful I can't resist. This was natural light and I like the colours but wonder how I can improve the composition.

It has become dinner now so can't be reshot!

summerbreezing,

The price you pay in shooting food, models always pass on. In order of attention: space lower left is empty compared to upper right, which seems more crowded than if everything were lower in composition. Garlic image in knife draws attention, then handle of knife disappears into blach. Background curvature in upper left draws attention there. Eggplant blends into b/g, hides little tomato. Onion off the board on right, might be a better foreground item: with carrot, they take you out of frame visually. Asparagus forms nice design, but hides three other vegetables.

Well done overall, just some concerns over where attention is diverted. Less tightness in upper portion relaxes a viewer.

Jiminy
Thank you for your comments - insightful as always. I see what you mean about the crowding and will try to improve next time. I also see how I have constrained myself by the limited size of the backdrop. Time to invest in something more practical!
As expected, the models were delicious!

mmmmmm . . . models.

Variety is always present in advertising. I think of food shots as landscape, where some sky really helps to sell the scene. And then there are some that put the horizon up and out of frame, as if shooting from a crane. You could do that here too.
