Default Industry in China

A small industrial town on the banks of the Yang Tze river in China. Kinda pretty, kinda frightening, and a totally surreal scene.

JerInTheBox,

Hello. I like the take; and I agree it renders all the feelings you mentioned. It's a bit underexposed on the shore. Also there is alot of sky in proportion to the other layers in the photo. Have you experimented with tint on the sky and have you considered eliminating some of the sky. Nice shot.

Please include photo settings on future threads.

Cheers,

Hi Jeremy
As I'm heading in that direction in June I was interested enough in this shot to view your album and you have some terrific photos there. Really like your people pics! Can't wait to check it out myself.

Thank you very much summerbreezing, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time as I did. Truth be told, with a decent camera it's hard to take a bad picture there.

Geotography, I thought about cropping the top but since that's pretty much all smoke from the plants I figured I'd leave it in for dramatic effect. What sort of tinting would you recommend to give it a little more detail?

something light that would imitate particulate matter (PM10) in the sky; as I would not bet that China is thinking much about air quality. I certainly could be wrong about that but the tint could set off your image.

a very emotive (yucky, but still powerful) picture- I really like the sepia tone to it. What happens if you crop a bit of the sky off, making it a panorama?

Due to popular demand (okay, 2 people), here's a bit less sky.

less sky less sky!

I love the really elongated panoramas, but then that is just me ;-)

Either way it's a good picture.

I agree, I like those kind of shots too, but I feel like when you crop too much sky here you begin to lose the vastness of the pollution as it billows into the foggy skies.

JerInTheBox, Welcome

You're invested in your photo, it's your work, your vision. That's why others may be more likely to see a compositional element that does not look the same as you feel. Squint, forget the need to show vastness and just think "pollution." There's a good amount left even in a crop. A white space does not so much convey vastness of pollutants.

The pink/orange in second photo does seem too friendly for "pollution," though
