Default The Guiding Light

Shot this last night, January 19th, at 1:19 AM.

It's been said to be one of the most haunted places in the U.S. I've begged them to let me go up in it at night, but it ain't gonna happen. I have got some great shots from the top during the day thou. Seriously long walk up too.

I was going for a spooky feel. They have multitudes of super bright lights all around it, so I was blocking light as best I could with my jacket, and shooting with the cable release.

Exposure Program: Manual

I really hope this isn't one of those shots where you think........

Did he have his eyes open when he took it.

WOW

the detail in the tree is amazing. the nooks and cranny's of the bark provides so much detail and contrast. Even the moss is detailed and provides your "spooky feel". the composition of the light house at first made me think that it was a lantern placed in the tree at first .

whit the light is a little yellow, i would wonder if you can strip some of that out?

I really enjoy this photo.

Oh man do I wish I had the camera gear I have now last time I was in St Augustine! I love that place. May I have a fiddle with your picture?

I tried the B&W thing, and it just didn't feel right. As a matter of fact I tried everything I knew to try as far as CS2 goes. Trust me I have a lot to learn with PS. Here is the original shot. I guess I screwed up, and should have posted it in the before, and after thread.

I almost like the original better. I know it takes a little away from your subject, but more of the gnarled old tree with spanish moss as well as the darker edges adds to the creepiness of this haunted lighthouse.

As an aside, did you ever see the Ghost Hunters where they went here? Pretty cool stuff they caught. We vacation in St. Augustine every summer and I'm looking forward to visiting the lighthouse again in June - I didn't go last yea

WooD,

Even the kitchy title adds a little something here; along with the unique colors, good control (especially in original) between very bright and nearly black subjects, thirds composition, diagonal, and placement of lighthouse, it's loaded with possibilities.

The only thing I see missing, and you can't get that with a long exposure, is the beam eminating from the lighthouse. Maybe that can be added in post?
