Default Balance 3

Seagull 3

Hi there again.

I took advice from jiminy and frankenPengie by cloning out some debris around the bird and also flipping the image. I increased the brightness and contrast of the bird just a tad and decreased it a bit on the hook. I used lens correction to add a vignette around the whole image trying to get focus on bird. Maybe a bit too extreme, but we all have to learn and that's the great thing about DPS, the amount of knowledge being shared and learned, so once again......

Thank you guys for all the help and sound advice.

Default beautiful simplicity

I like what you have done. I really like the minimal composition. Is this B&W? I cannot tell on the monitor in which I'm viewing. This makes me think that you pulled off something really ingenius; that is, photographing objects in color but which appear to be shot in crisp black and white.
The only thing that struck me right away is that given the layout of the shot, I might have (and this is just me..) lightened the white feather areas of the bird in post-process in order to give it even greater contrast against the water and darkness of the dock and anchors. But, if you never do anything else to it, you already have a wonderful picture there. Simple (which is never as easy as it looks eh?) and vivid and alive. Excellent work!

Hello jdwalz.

The picture was originally shot in colour and then transformed into B & W using PS3 (image, adjustments, black&white, max b&w) and then some +/- on brightness and contrast on seperate parts of the image.

Thank you for viewing and your kind words.

Hi there Nathan

I really like what you have done, especially the added rust to the hooks.

Thanks.

I love the composition and the B&W !
I would have just a very small small detail to point out :
It looks like you made some sort of selection of the hook in order to make the changes... You should soften the selection in order to avoid the noisy effect around the hook...
This photos is really good !

Colm Noonan,

It's taking on a life of its own . . . good sign. If you still have your working copy of this edit, look between the bird's spindly legs: there's an area that didn't get lightened. A small detail, and that's what post work is all about. Good work; is there a "4?"
