Default 4th go at a Waterfall

Well, this is the fourth time I've been out to this waterfall this Summer break- we finally got some rain, so I went to try my luck on series #4. I've been trying to refine my technique, and have found that shooting the same scene is making huge inroads in my ignorance.

30D, 24-105/4L, el cheapo Hoya CP, Manual, from RAW, Av 9, Tv .3, WB Cloudy, Ev 0, ISO 100, Tripod and remote timer used.

Please comment on any and every element of this photo, including the elusive "wow" factor. My wife was reluctant in her praise, which is a bad portent, but I also processed this photo before washing up after dinner, so that could be the source of her restraint.

Thanks all!

the_camera_poser,

As much as I thought you did well in the "scarcer" waterfall, this is simply better for having water in it, and just soft to the silky degree, not completely cotton-like. As long as you include a substantial amount of that dark hunk of stone, lower left, it seems OK as the anchor for the spindly tree, and offers some respite from all the lightness. It's good work.

waterfalls are a challange , I think you should have zoomed out on this one to enclude the top of the falls . I also see that you used 400 , I use 80 and use a#4 or#8 nd filter to give that milky look to waterfalls but do not shoot in raw . Do you have other shots that enclude the top of the falls ? That may give you that WOW factor that you are looking for .

I think it is a gorgeous soft, silky smooth type of feel pic. I love the tones and the tree in the foreground- BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!

Wow, I love this. My only complaint is the bit of brush at the bottom right. For some reason I dislike it, but other than that I personally think this is perfect. Though again I'm just a beginner in photography, but this photo is definitely inspirational in my eyes.

As for the brush at the bottom, if it wasn't a National Park, with a boardwalk and a restricted viewing area, I'd be tempted.......

Here's another view of the falls that is wider. I avoided wider views of the falls as there is too much clutter in the shot when the entire falls are captured- there's a couple of rocks in the middle of the scene with treees growing out of them, and it all gets too busy. I'll see if I can find a picture of the whole thing.

Wow! I really like the silkiness of the water. I have been trying to get a shot like these for ages.

I have tried to look at your pic from a different perspective by cropping out some of the vegetation from the right and just focus on the falls. What do you think? (apologies for editing pic without your permission)

Cheers

Thanks for that Arun- I do like your cropping. I'm going to go back today and have a 5th go. I do love Summer Vacation- it's good to be a teacher :-)
