My doggie, "shadow"

I shot this with my Nikon D80, one evening sitting around the house. I could have zoomed in a bit, but i wanted to capture his playful side, and thought the angle, plus depth of field, was appropriate for the image i saw in my head, at that moment. We just got him from the animal rescue center, for my son. He named him shadow, because he says, " that dog always follow me around like he's my shadow".I,and my wife thought that was so touching.

Following the line of the dog through the fuzzy-dice, a good tilt to the right would help horizontal composition. It doesn't seem to me the 45 works here. A tighter crop/shot - more towards a landscape than portrait would help. There's a lot of blank at the top and distraction at the bottom.

Cute pooch. The DOF and focus are fine. Less dependency on flash, or a more more diffused flash could help. The brightness of it's chewy is a bit troublesome. The darker rawhides may be a consideration for your pantry.

I find the colours of the lounge to be distractiong, Shadow blends into it a little to well for my liking. I would have taken the picture outside on some grass or something, just my opinion though.
