Hi there, I took some advice from loondiver and cropped tighter.
The seagull doesn't look so lost in the image now.

Thanks loondiver.

I feel the focus should follow the direction of the viewer's eye which is naturally left to right. I think flipping this would give it some help. The bits of debris are distracting. Can you clone them out?

Very nice shot. The contrast is good And DOF is right on. There's no Exif available. Was this shot BW or converted?

I love the idea you've presented, a kind of heavy vs. light thing

Colm Noonan,

Too tight. Feel like a ping-pong ball yet? A crop would have helped, but only if it got your subject into a spot of strength or interest. Your chappie looks about to fall out of the frame. He has jumping room in your original. Now he's just a hook accessory. Add back space on bottom and right side, and a dark vignette to upper left to absorb some of the hooks' distraction. World of difference, a little room makes.
