Default Flower Girl

Okay I'm trying this again. Here's the photo I'd love to have input on. I was following my daughter and the mom down for pictures in the santuary and my daughter turned as I snapped the shot. I love this shot, but would love to have further input. I'm working on removing the "stuff" at the end of the hall. This is my first post.

The pose is interesting, giving a hint of this awareness children have that grownups don't.
You could try a tighter crop, at least get rid of the space above the head of the ladies.
A square crop to get rid of the space below the feet may work also, but I would like the motion clue that would suggest this empty space (motion from front to background).
If you have kneeled down to be at most on your daughter's eye level, it would have been even better.

The shot seems a little soft, especially the girl's face. But that's just maybe the consequence of JPEG compression?
The background is pretty much distracting. As there is a blank wall, it could be easy to clone out the table and poster in the background and also the door on the right (a bit more difficult this one).
It may be lacking a little bit of contrast.

Keep on going

Two thoughts on this lovely photo --

First, have you tried a really tight crop on the girl? There may be reasons why you would want to include the two women as well, but keep an open mind.

Second, I wonder if the BW conversion could be improved. The girl's dress seems a bit blown out, there is a lot of grey midtones. It would require some work, but I would be tempted to play around with a couple of different conversion techniques to see if anything more pleasing popped out.

Nice... I'd do a tight crop around the girl, and then make the background completely black. It would look more like a studio shot then

I played with it in PS for just a few minutes, but I couldn't save or post the one I did.

So I will try and discribe it, first I did a tight crop, but kept the ladies in. I think it is the little girl looking back that 'makes this shot'. Then I darken the tones so that the ladies almost fade, because the little girl is in so much white she then becomes the undistracted subject of the photo and her dress looks less blown out. I also cloned out the themostat on the right, the window on the door and the 'stuff' above the table (I left the table though). I think it is a great capture of a very sweet moment.
