Lightbulb Toes in the river

Hi there fellow DPS-forumers,

I thought this would be a fun photo to take when I recently went on holidays. There was a beautiful river with these gorgeous river rocks.
The light was fading and the shot came out quite dark, so I have had to adjust the brightness and contrast in post-processing.
Any comments on the composition of the photo?
Thanks ahead for your comments....

By the way, they are my toes you are looking at....it was a tricky balancing act...

Morning eternalhope,

You did not visibly cut off any limbs at the joints; good! The focus is not dialed in or you experienced hand shake; addressing this issue should become second nature with every shot. Flip the image left (portrait) and test if you like it better...it may read better from left to right. As it may take some effort and care with your camera, try this again down low (not down under) shooting a side profile of toe dipping with some blurred landscape background (use large aperture). Make the foot fairly sizable in the frame but keep it in context of the place you are at. Summed: try down low, profile of foot in river, include blurred context of surrounding with high aperture) and get the fined tuned detail of those georgeous rocks.

A great idea! just not as well executed as it could be. I think you need more water in the photo. If you had held the camera portrait for the photo and placed the feet at the top of the frame, I think, it would of been better. Also there a lot of noise when there don't need to be as well as camera shake. I think you should re-shoot this with a tripod and low ISO. Another thought would be to do 2 photos, one of just the water with an ND filter and then another with the feet added in. You could blend the 2 photos then in photoshop (or wherever image editing software) and I think it would be fantastic.

I LOVE this concept. It automatically made me remember the feeling of wading in creeks as a kid and feeling the warm shallow water on my feet. Definitely touches the senses.
I agree with the other posters that it is not as well executed as it could be. I would agree that this shot, since it looks like you've taken it yourself, needs to be on a tripod to reduce the camera shake. It doesn't look as crisp as it could have been. I also would like to see it lightened up a bit and maybe catch the movement or reflection of the water a little more...
Brilliant concept, thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories for me! =)

Hi guys, thanks for your constructive comments and ideas. I have tweaked the shot a little (with the very basic editing program on my PC). I have flipped it into portrait and lightened and adjusted the colour slightly (to a bluer hue). Can't do much with the hand shake, but I will try the tripod next time. Just a bit dicey having it over water.....Please tell me what you think now....feel free to have some fun with it and make any adjustments.

Thanks

Thanks jiminy. I do think it looks better this way too. I just love getting fresh eyes on my images. Nothing to lose in playing around...I figure with the luxury of digital I can always delete or undo changes!
