Smile New here, first picture post.

Hello everybody, I just posted my formal "introduction" in your, well...Introduction Thread. I figured I would try posting one of my latest shots and go from there. This is one of my guitars. I wanted to get an artistic shot of it with a color fade going light to dark, left to right using my guitar's guard as part of the process. I tossed a neutral density 4X filter on so that I could buy even more time to run around with a glossy white box lid as my "poor man's reflector" and work it the best I could. I hate doing any post-production in Photoshop so the only thing done there was simply a little cropping and cloning out a nail hole from the wall. Blah, blah, blah...sorry, here's the shot.

Like the composition of the photo. You seem to have a knack for doing product shots. Someone would buy this in a 'RocknRoll' second on Ebay.

You guys are making my day! After 20+ years of taking "snapshots", I think I finally found my niche. For years I tried to emulate my father and his talents at landscape/nature photography. I love the outdoors and really wanted to capture the beauty like he does. In my frustration I got a wild hair to try the opposite of my dad. Instead of huge telephotos and outdoor lighting and composition (things you can't control outside), I decided to do the exact opposite and shoot close up, inside, "products". Being that I create full-page ads all day for an in-house design group, I think that, coupled with my graphic design degree, help me with this type of photography.

The feedback I am getting here is the really encouraging and I thank you for that. I look forward to growing and honing in on my niche with all of you. I appreciate all the help I can get and hope to give back as well. I will try to make a habit of making note of my settings/specs when shooting so that I can share my process.

Nobie, Welcome

Landscape and a lake, or Land o' Lakes butter, it's moving light through glass. Congratulations on finding direction. Good work
