Matt M

With what did you photograph this? What settings did you use? Why did you compose it in this way? What did you hope to convey in your choice of angle, framing and distance from subject? What would you like to know from other DPS members?

I think the photo is fine technically. To address the, in your words boring, issues. Have you tried cropping it a bit tighter and converting to a B&W. Then playing with the contrast.

Matt M,

It means a better Citique may be given, if you record your settings, time of day, weather, even thoughts that made you decide to shoot a subject.

Some things you could try: move the opening of pod toward Sun, lighting the inside of it. Fill as much of the frame as you can, and get a little more contrast. Exposure compensation can help with that

I like these dry pods and shoot them year round. Here is just one of many

In yours, that little pod is crying out to be a portrait vs landscape shot. The petals need room to reach for the sun. But more than anything else it needs your respect. You need to be on eye level (or a touch lower) and you need to ask yourself "Why this bud?" "Why this framing?" "Why now?"

'Whatever', really doesn't inspire others to help you much either.
