my orchids are starting to bloom again finally...they are tricky little guys. Anyways, took this with a black drop cloth behind it, iso 100, f14, 6 seconds. I messed with the levels, color balance to bring them back to what they are in real life...or close to it, fliped the image , did some cropping and removed a little leaf nub from the bottom corner that I thought was distracting...Do you think I should add a leaf in to fill in the lower left corner a bit? I dont want to clutter it up much more...feedback always appreciated.
if you feel inclined to do so, take and re-edit pic to show me what more could be done! also, I was tossing around the idea of taking out the pedal of the flower that is popping out from behind the main two... Last edited by jonny4now; 01-16-2008 at 07:31 PM. Reason: more info |

Hi jonny4now:
And how about a different background that can make the color of the flower get really noticed. It's a little bit to dark for me as both background and flowers colors are dark ones. About the flowers pot-processing is good and the subject is clear and sharp. Keep a good eye on lightening it well too. Good luck and thanks for sharing it!

Jonny4now,
Delightful subject and I particularly like how striking the orchid is against the black background. JiminyClickit's layout takes it to the next level. Great work!

Jiminy's edit works very well. You had a very strong image (good contrast, color and lighting), to begin with. Jiminy fixed the composition. This is now a "Wall Hanger". I wouldn't clone out anything. The extra petal between the 2 main blooms, helps the viewer separate the blossums. Each blossum has its' own character moving left to right. The little differences keep the eye interested and "in Frame". You should be very proud of this shot. You might even consider taking it to your nearest Public library for display. A lot of photographers do that here in Columbus, Ohio. This image could also be used as stock photo for Orchid clubs or conservatories. I only mention it as the Franklin County Conservatory here in Columbus, is showing a major orchid exhibit right now. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
