Here's a pic taken at the beach, with my mother's foot included (always getting in the way..) Should I take her foot out? I kind of like it--it adds a human element.

If you like it, as a 5% human element addition to 95% water and pebbles, then you should leave it. It looks more like an accidental shutter release moment that you are reluctant to remove. It isn't that it's a foot, or that it's your mother. It sits on the frame, in a corner, as a distraction. A 5% fish element, more inside the composition, would be pleasing and reasonable.
