Default My Daughter

Here is a photo of my daughter this past October. I adjusted the curves slightly and cropped the photo. What do you think.... please be gentle, this is my first post. Thanks!

I really like it. I am a big fan of the close crop. Well done. I am new here too, so I dont have a lot of the technical skill to critique.

Default Just lightened up a little.

The only thing I would have changed about this shot would be to lighten it up some. I increased the fill light slightly and adjusted the highlights a little also. I did both fixes in Picasa. The extra fill light really shows the brown in her eyes. I only edited this shot because it was easier to show what I thought was missing, than to try to explain it. (That, and I don't have Photoshop yet. LOL) This was already a beautiful shot, I just like childrens' shots to be lighter. If you would prefer that I not edit any of your posts, please tell me and I will delete it. The larger size is on Flickr. If you wish, I will delete it as well. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful image.

Really like the shot.. and the edited version... its brings out the innocence of the face.... I am a big fan of child photograph and really like the idea of putting her head diagonally... but to me crop is a bit tight.. I would like to see her head and hair also in frame..(I know it may distract viewer eye from her eye.. but diagonal frame is enough for keeping them on her eye i feel).. Do you have original?

FocalFrenzy - lightening it up slightly did help, didn't it! It looks great. I am actually using this photo for her third birthday inviation so I will use a lighter version. And I don't mind editing at all - that's how we learn, right?

I don't have the original, sorry, but it may be a little tightly cropped. I kind of like the tight crop and diagonal angle in this photo, I thought it worked well. Thanks everyone for your help, I really want to get better at photography and I have learned a ton already just by looking through the forums. Thanks again!

I would be inclined to apply some white balancing to the lighter version of the shot - her teeth and eyes look a bit cyan-grey.

I haven't got time to write up my method but has similarities to this tutorial.

Funny you should mention the teeth.... they actually are slightly grey. She decided one day to scale my sons high chair and pulled it over on top of herself. She nearly knocked her front teeth out (damaging the nerves), gave herself two black eyes, a bloody nose, split lip... Just another day in the ER!
