Default My Saxophone

Hi guys,

just the one for now. This is my first post on these forums and i would like some C&C on this photo. Not much done in PS, but im not sure if much more could be done to it. I like the colour tone, tho im not sure if its too dark.

its good to be here

I really like the colors you have going on here. The purple and gold work well together. I like the DOF, but the part that is in main focus lacks a bit of interest to me, its like its focused on the back of something really cool looking...I would like to see the engraving on the horn if possible. Nice clean shot.

Congrats on the first post......and be sure to read the rules of the forums at the top of each sub forum!
I think the DOF is a bit too shallow. A bit dark to the right but not a bad thing. I would cool the shot down a bit looks a little too warm. have yo tried playing around with the composition...setting up in different ways and shooting at different angles?
I like to see the bell of the instrument in shots like this.

jonny4now: Thanks for the comments dude, nice to know its coming across as a "clean" shot, its one of my early goals at the moment. As for focusing on the bell, i do have some shots, but none that i would like to use. At the moment i dont have a tripod so i did this set by hand, thus having a lot of pictures with blur.

Pinball: Again thanks for the comments, heh i will read up of the stickys ta. Again i did take 30 odd pictures, but all were by hand a the majority of them are a bit poo (tho i am picking up a tripod tomorrow!) Ive taken your coments into account, below is the uncropped version, ive increased the exposure and messed slightly with the white balance settings on lightroom. I think it looks a tad better, what do you think?

also, you say the dof is shallow, am i right in thinking that its not blurred enough?

Ta.

I think it separates it a bit more and does improve the shot...the color of the sax looks better and is the subject so you want it to be apart from the rest of the image.

I like the original version of the pic.. Darkness of the shot gives the gloden color to prop out in a interesting maner... As people said.. DOF is too shallow in my taste.. would like to see the horn also in the focus.. but you know its always hard to done than said..
