Hi,

I too am new to photography, so my comments are personal and in no means a "professional opinion"... I think your shot would be more interesting with a black background and perhaps a little more light on the dials. Did you try any other angles? Or just the straight down one? I'm also wondering how it would turn out if you got a little closer to the actual mechanics of it... you know? Get right in close and then use a close crop to really focus our attention.

You might want to check out this tutorial, could help with lighting: Light Tent

Anyways, I hope my comments help.

Todd, Welcome

If you would consider using Flickr to post your photos, you'd be able to post a good size with ease. KagoGrl speaks the truth about trying as many variations as you have time for. This a good first post: would have liked more info on camera, settings, etc. That helps us!
