Hi and welcome to the group. I am sure you learned a lot using the statue as a model in testing out your D40x. Your handling of the shot has an interesting appeal. Since it is a three-dimensional stature with full facial features, try photographing it at different times of the day to see how the shadows affect the look. If the lighting is not at the right angle, use some bounce cards to add fill light. Using such a model can help you go a long way later on if you decide to try your hand at portraiture. Enjoy your new camera.

derbesd, Welcome

With time, you will go from hundreds of shots and lots of editing, to a few really good photos that need only minimal edits. The statue's angle and crop are interesting, and appears to be overexposed and processed quite a bit. Interesting.

The angle and composition are really strong.
I like the processing also. It's quite heavy, but suits well, in my opinion, giving harsh contrast in lights and in colors.

A Nikon D70s, a few lenses, add flashguns to your taste. Stir well. Serve warm.
