Default Chicago at Night - Michigan Avenue

chicago at night #4

This one's back to that surreal abstract look. I'm fond of the slight blur to the people on the corner and the motion blur for the cabs. Thoughts?

The building is well exposed, but I wonder, what if you had closed down the aperture a little more so that you could get the streaks of the cab going all the way across the bottom of the photo rather than just the slight movement. Otherwise I probably would have moved my focus up slightly so as not to cut off the top corner of the building on the left. Nice night shots though

Good point about the building on the left. Didn't even notice. Smaller aperture was not possible - unfortunately. I was hand holding at ISO 1600. Exposure was already up to 1/8 @ f3.5.

I had that tripod with me but I wasn't sure about snapping it open right on the corner of Michigan Ave. I wasn't sure if it was allowed or not. I eventually wound up using it on Wacker though - but it was down by the Vietnam Memorial (down steps by river out of view). That's where I took the Trump Tower shot and a few other buildings.

Ah yep Didn't look at the exif.

I haven't seen anything about not using a tripod on Michigan Ave, but then again, I'm not in Chicago too often, and this time I don't have my tripod with me, so it's a moot point anyways

If possiable I would have set a longer exposure time to let those cars and people have some more movement, it would also allow the lights of the night time blur and look softer..

then again if you did not have a tripod then those things I mentioned could be difficult.
