Default First post - newbie

blue flower

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/4
Focal Length: 90 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: 0/6 EV
Direct Sunlight
Flash???? I can't remember, plus I'm not sure I am reading the EXIF data correctly.

I am fairly new to photography and post processing, but I am ready to take it to another level.....so please help, and please be gentle.

How can I make this photo better? It seems tight on the left. And, of course I need to clone out the wayward fuzz that mysteriously decided to attached itself to my photo subject.rolleyes:

I'm looking forward to some input. Thanks. Linda

I would say its a nice photo! Like the composition and the colours. Your DOF and focus is good as well! The blue looks just a tad to blue, or is it just me But nice!!

A Nikon D70s, a few lenses, add flashguns to your taste. Stir well. Serve warm.

A Team,

When possible, including some green color from the sepals will give life to your bloom, if you want that to show. Generally I find underneath, as in example, or overhead showing most of petals and pistil/stamen/pollen bits, gives the viewer more flower-per-view.

Color intensity is a matter of choice:

It could just be me but i would prefer just a fraction more at the right side of the image. That would balance the gap at the left side.

Other than that i really like it.

I think this is a very impressive result (and I'm pretty sure your flash didn't go off otherwise you would have lost the backlighting and have had a much less interesting picture as a result).

I like the intensity of the blue against the relatively neutral (but complementary background). While it is sometimes nice to have multicoloured shots, this kind of limited palette result is often very pleasing.

It looks a little narrow and a little high to me. If the original was cropped down, I would probably have had the bottom petal pointing directly at the bottom left corner (avoiding having to do a slight visual hop to get onto the diagonal line running up to the heart of the flower) and left a little more space down the right hand side of the frame.

However, that is just me being picky and I think this is a result to be pleased with.

Wow! Thanks for all the excellent advise and for taking time to look at my photo. I wish I had a larger orginal to play with, but I don't. I will definately tweak what I can and then try to reshoot with these tips in mind. Thanks again.

Peace,

Linda
