The Weird Witch,

That really needs more information, like "Wha...? Where? Who?" I can see Why, with an interest factor that high. Even though the background is complex, was the area further left worse? If the sculpture were lighter, it would pull away from the complexity more. I'd think about cropping top, left and bottom, leaving "them" some looking-up room. All in all, a good shot.

I think the trees in the background create a distraction from the main subject .. cropping as suggested above is worth trying...

Yeah if you were able to reshoot - try to find an angle where the trees arent coming out of the heads but while giving space as Jiminy suggested. Either that or use a wide aperture to blur the background so that the statue becomes more prominent.

Have cropped, and lightened the statue, is this any better?
As for reshooting, I don't think Im going to get the time, this temple is a fair distance from my dorm and Im moving back to my own country in a few weeks. That said if I get the chance I will try and find a different angle.

I think the composition is better but you could afford to trim a little more off the right hand side - the wire and bit of tree at the bottom on that side just distract from the main subject.

I would be inclined to say the processing is a bit heavy. I think it would be better either much more subtle (like the first picture, perhaps with everything lightened a bit) or pushing the envelope even further for a deliberately comic-book effect.

ps. The original might be worth sending a PM to Nicole about for the "What Would You Do" challenge she runs. If you want to see what ideas the DPS crowd can come up with for the shot as it is, that is the place for it to be done.

instead of making the statues lighter, how about making the background a bit darker? looks a bit strange with the statues almost glowing like that.
