Default Setting Sun

I know there is a current thread titled "Sunset", so I titled this differently to not confuse the threads.

2008.01.02 Sunset DSCF0861

I don't have a tripod yet, but made one out of an old floor lamp and some PVC fittings for a "mount". It isn't the most stable, and it is quite windy through the winter where I'm at (this is behind my house). Thus, I think there was a bit of sway in the DIY tripod.

There is some lens flare over on the mid-right side. What would get rid of that for future reference, a polarized filter possibly?

Also, I know it could have been rotated just slightly a degree or so. Looking at it now, I can see that the snow horizon line is slightly off from level. I don't know if that is true to how it is, or just the shot taken slightly off-level.

I don't like the extremely bright clouds off to the left of the sun. How might I shoot it next time to avoid that?

I played just slightly in Paint Shop Pro. Not much, just looking at some of the stuff that I had never messed with before (mostly levels with this shot, to get more color reflecting on the snow).

Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S5700 S700
Exposure: 0.003 sec (1/340)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 6.3 mm
ISO Speed: 64
Exposure Bias: 0/100 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

I like the colours...adds warmth to the cold snow.

My only criticism is there is too much sky, IMO.

Good shot!

I think it wood have came out better if you had waited a while longer, or shot it with the sun out of the frame. I really like the sky, and the colors on the snow, but the sun keeps drawing my eye to it.
