Default Beachcombing

This is a photo of my daughter taken today while we were at the beach. Have made a square crop and cloned out a couple of distracting objects but would appreciate any constructive critique you guys might have. Feel free to edit and re-post if you like.

Ewie,

You have a nice photograph here. It captures your daughter simply "being" upon one of planet's most enjoyable natural settings. It is natural, well focused, has good DOF choice with background justifiably out of focus, impeccable adherence to the rule of thirds, good color where the color should be, and natural, honest skin tone. If this was my photo, I would choose to leave as it now stands. Thanks for sharing it with this forum.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I used a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 APO lens for this shot and I love the colour and DOF I get with it. Apart from the crop and minor cloning, everything else is as shot.

Ewie,

Overcast day and wet sand? Then the color is as it should be.

This picture recalls many wonderful days spent at the beach in my childhood. For me, the fact that it pulls me in like this makes it quite successful. I agree with the previous posters on the croppping, colors, etc.

Hi Jiminy, actually it was a bright clear day, not a cloud in the sky and the sand is volcanic grey/black on this beach not the usual white as you might expect. I had never seen black sand before coming to New Zealand.
Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback peeper.... When I took the shot I was not "square" with the waves washing up on the beach, but at more of an angle. I did try straightening the waterline but that gave my daughter an odd sort of a lean.
Will try to take more notice of angles next time... thanks

Lovely photo Ewie! I'm new to photography myself so not sure how worthy my comments are but I find the top left to be slightly distracting, where the waves are a different colour. Could you not crop down from the top a little more so that the waves are all the same colour, i.e. white (ish)
