You have some good material to work with here. As wulf mentioned, the symmetrical composition doesn't add value. The bright background lights draw my eye past the subject and take away for the overall impact.. Keep shooting as I feel you have a good eye for this type of subject matter.

The shot also looks a bit crooked. Regardless, it does seem like you have a good idea here.

I think this scene has a lot of potential.
When I click through to the photo, it is still too small to really appreciate. I was trying to get a sense of how much of the actual post was visible, as opposed to the lamp part of it. Iwould like to see it larger -- have you considered getting a flickr account and having your photos hosted there? From what I could see, you have lost a lot of the post to darkness -- so the light at the top looks like another (granted, the biggest) light floating in the dark. I wonder if a shot that captured more of the post would better convey the lamppost as subject, and while still preserving those other lights as nice accents. As for wonkiness/crookedness, it sort of looks like this post is on a slope. A different perspective -- up or down slope maybe, or closer in shooting up -- might reduce the distraction that others are noting. EL
