Default My Assignment

Hi all,
I'd love some feedback on the image I posted for the Ghetto lighting assignment. I took it using the light from a streetlamp coming through the window. I really am pleased with it - it's possibly one of the best images I've ever taken, especially being one that I've set up in this way. I don't usually take still life.

Matthew James Norman,

Two notes: reading the tiles draws attention specifically, less time to appreciate colors, composition; cutting off little corners at bottom and left side, seems distracting, as if a hasty trim. Working with street light, inventive and effective.

Thanks for the feedback, both.
jiminyClickit, would you suggest leaving the tiles out of focus then? I did toy with that idea... but then would the viewers try to figure out what was on the tiles instead of looking at the image as a whole? Dammit, I just don't know!

I like the warmth of this image. I think blurring the tiles would be more of a distraction like you pointed out matthew. I immediately read the tiles but then am free to run around the image. The bottom edge is a bit distracting to me maybe the large bit of shadow...im not sure why or what is throwing it off for me.

MJN,

I like this alot...nice creative work/play. The red, black and tile hue give strength to the image. I think the technical comments by those reviewers before me are very useful. The "tile" question is a difficult one. I think the tiles are integral to the overall subject...once identified, a person will refocus on the whole and enjoy the photograph. Thanks for your work and sharing.

Best,

Matthew James Norman,

The words "street," "light'" and "window" would create some thought connected directly to the technique displayed. And one less word.

jiminyClickit,

Are you sure you don't want to change that to "theRiddler"?

i enjoyed this shot on the assignment thread and had i not been so rushed i would have left a note on your flickr site.....

i do agree that the framing is a bit awkward and i would have liked to have seen all points of the board within it......

nice image.....
