Best light to use is an LED flashlight... set your camera up on a tripod, set it to bulb mode (this will open the lens when you press the shutter release) and trace the words in the air with the flashlight... when you're done the word(s) turn off the flashlight and close the camera shutter by pressing the shutter release again... you can also turn the flashlight off and on between letters if you want a more printed style of text:

Playing with Light : 365

It has been discussed before - read here and here for some information and examples of "light painting".

Default Assignment: Ghetto Lighting

I didnt understand the assignment, so after reading Wulf's explanation, I decided to use this picture instead. Nobody fall off your chairs, I took the camera off auto mode! I call it, "The Eyes Have It" the only light was the computer screen.

You can read the link wulf gave, or you can take my uber-short version...

Bulb setting, manual everything (pre focus in light), start easy, draw a heart with any light, and from there, just trust the lcd screen on the camera. I usually start at f. 5.6. Just play with it, you'll be amazed how easy it is.... it'll still take a bunch a shots to get it exactly right though, lol... I spent all December doing light painting photo's for a documentary on the Rave Scene, those kids do nothing but paint with light!

Ok you win. The prize is another one of my ghetto lighting attempts. No post processing on the face just a torn orange carrier bag over the screen.

'Filtered' screen light
