Default Irish Potato Famine Memorial

Took this at the memorial in Ireland to those who died on the death ships during the potato famine. Screwed up and got rain on the lens, but it created a kind of cool effect adding to the eeriness.

First dps upload, was it worth it?
Hi,
Very graphic but a little more light on the man would have made this pic more dynamic. Did you by any way try to increase contrast thru photoshop?
But any way I love the atmosphere and gloom surrounding the figure.

Here I used a procedure in The GIMP that I like in particular for close-ups. I convert to black and white as seems best (decomposing into RGB and mixing on top of a dark grey background, in this case), then posterize to 64 colors (which tends to be about right, but can of course be varied), and then do a gaussian blur, with a radius that smoothes out the worst of the graininess.

Shadowplay

Here's a portrait taken indoors with no flash, which by a stroke of luck, I have to say, turned out with the face less blurred than the background (out of focus) and the foreground (movement). In this case I turned it into black and white by simply desaturating, and then did a less overt version of the procedure described above.
