Poor camera, always at the business end of things. Well, it's time to make it the star you know it can be and put it in a picture of it's own. Use another camera (borrowed or your own), your phone or a mirror to get it done. Or maybe you have a vintage camera that needs to be dusted off and place in the spotlight to help you remember it's glory years. Either way, "Show Us Your Camera".
![]() As always, rules: Please note the change in closing time. Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 30th of December and the 13th of January. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! 2. Your post must include "Assignment: Show us your Camera " (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here. If you have a camera, chances are great you've tried a some landscape photography. Many times we feel feel dissatisfied when we look at our landscape shots. They never quite recreate the feeling of what we saw. So this assignment is deceptively simple: I want you to take a landscape shot that has a definite point of interest. Check out "Landscape Photography Tips" and keep in mind the following: 1. Have a point of interest and think about placing it according to the rule of thirds. 2. Don't place your horizon across the middle of the scene. A third of the way from the top or bottom is best. 3. Be aware of foreground interest. 4. Consider using framing in your shot if appropriate. 5. Where should you focus? Read this. Last edited by Sime; 01-07-2010 at 10:12 AM. |

From all available mirrors, I thought I'd try a more tricky one: a wing mirror:

My entry is a picture of my first serious camera, which I obviously still have... an Ashai Pentax K1000SE. This was and is a real workhorse and is the reason I went with Pentax when I got my DSLR.
![]() Camera: Pentax K100D Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) Aperture: f/11.0 Focal Length: 200 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Program: Manual Date and Time (Original): 2010:01:06 10:40:26-05:00 I used three flashes to light this and the strobist info is on Flickr for inquiring minds

I'm sorry but I don't know where to post this: is it ok to do post production stuff to our pictures? I just got my first camera - SLR or otherwise - and the pictures I like the most involve using GIMP. Thanks!

Showing You My Camera
![]() I took this shot in the mirror, and flipped it in PS so that you could read the writing on the lens . The room was a little dark and a tripod wouldn't work for this, so I intentionally went for a high-ISO w/ B&W, just because it's a style I've been meaning to try ![]() Camera: Nikon D40 Exposure: 0.04 sec (1/25) Aperture: f/5.6 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 3200 Taken on January 3, 2010

A mirrored self portrait of my camera and me. I did a flip and a very tight crop which results in a rather grainy look. I tried to recreate the capture at a much closer range and cannot come up with one I like better, so this is my entry and I'm stickin' to it.

I'm new to site and a novice. I'm curious, I've noticed for the first three pictures, the EXIFdata is included, but I wondered how you manage to take a picture of the camera your using.
Its obvious, the last two pictures were reflected through the mirror, if you get my drift. May seem like a silly question, but did you use another camera to take the picture of of your DSL and Pentax or is the EXIF data just part of your signature when you post? I would like to take a shot and post a picture of my camera, but I'd figure I would need to use one of my older cameras. |
