Default Assignment: My Best Shot of 2009

"Lily of the Nile"
24/365 - Lily of the Nile
For me, this is my favorite shot of the year. I felt like I actually knew what I was doing for once when I took it, lol... used the right settings and didn't need 'correcting' in PPing. I also don't think I would have normally taken the photo at f/16 except that it was the assignment for the week. I learned that f/16 was perfect for capturing the details of the close-up subject - a lesson I've been able to use again after learning it here. I also had been trying to capture the beauty of this flower for about a year... they bloom every summer in my front yard. This time, I finally found the right time of day, plus the right camera settings and it all just fell into place!

Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture: f/16.0
Focal Length: 26 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Taken on June 24, 2009

Camera: Canon EOS 1000D
Lens: EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Exposure: 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture: f/7.1
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 200

Hi Jamie. What a coincidence our post is next to each other.

That is very cool!

I disagree...It's kind of like possibly winning "best of x category AND best overall". And if it's your best/ you like it best and it didn't win the previous contest it probably won't win now, but it's still "your best" and suitable for this assignment. I'm quite ok with loosing twice with the same pic.

This is so pretty! (It probably has something to do with blue being my favorite color.) I have friends who live in Regina and so I've always wanted to visit them in Saskatchewan as well as a few other areas in Canada. Seeing this photo makes me want to visit Canada now more than ever!

Default My Best Shot 2009

This was a great year for me in photography. I feel like I have learned so much, so finding the one picture to post was a little difficult. I decided on this one because I wanted to post something where I had to play around for a while to get just the right shot.

Camera: Canon Powershot S5 IS
Shutter: 1/800

Default Assignment: Best of 2009

I have learned so much about photography this year, both technical and artistic, much of from DPS. Sometimes, however, we can over-think the process. I was sitting waiting for lunch and I just picked up the camera and with only very brief setup captured this photo.

Hi. This is my favorite shot from 2009, mainly because I had to lean across the porch railing and put my face about a camera-length away from this beast, while barely able to get the camera anywhere near my eye.

I'm so nervous! This is my first post here, ever.
